About us

Somnaceutics Limited was formed in 2007 to commercialise and further develop the unique patented discovery of a natural sleep enhancing milk product, made by Founding Scientist and inventor, Professor Bob Elliott.

His research, spanning a decade, was inspired by observing the powerful, calming and sleep enhancing effect of breast milk on newborns, and the desire to find a natural, safe alternative to prescription medications.

Professor Elliott discovered sleep enhancing peptides believed responsible for this effect. He found that these are present in a very small number of cows (approx 10-15%) of New Zealand's herd. Milk is collected from these selected cows and processed into a sleep enhancing tonic using a proprietary method.

Somnaceutics was co-founded by Pacific Channel Limited, a venture development and investment company that co-invested into Somnaceutics with private investors and the New Zealand Venture Investment Fund. Additional funding for research and development has been supported through organisations such as the New Zealand Government funded Foundation for Science and Research (FRST).

Somnaceutics invests in ongoing Research & Development that is conducted through its in- house scientists and collaborations with leading institutions and specialists. Research & Development is lead from market opportunities, consumer and customer research and insights.

Somnaceutics works in partnerships and strategic alliances with manufacturers, distributors and channel partners to develop and customise its functional beverage and nutraceutical products for markets.
